Volunteers who attended various breakout sessions on Sept. 11th provide highlights of what was presented.
  • Teacher/Principal Evaluation Session- Toby Boss Reported
    • Student Learning Objective (SLO) is one component of the NDE Teacher/Evaluation Pilot
    • Work group put together a training for the NDE Pilot schools on how to write SLOs
    • Goal to have a consistent message across the state on how to write the SLOs effectively
    • Jeff pulled together the groups thoughts and put a power point together
    • Have a few things to finish up and then will take it to the Pilot schools
    • Pilot schools have to have their SLOs in place by second semester
  • SLDS- Data Dashboard- Marilou Jasnoch Reported
    • Took a tour of the NDE Data Dashboard; Superintendent View, Principal View, and Teacher View
    • Pilot schools will be giving input on what the dashboard will look like
    • Another goal is to help schools become more data literate
    • Data Guidebook, Victoria Burnhardt resources were use to create data literacies (Data Cadre work)
    • Input was gathered from the group to edit and revise the literacies
    • Scavenger Hunt through the DRS- has been updated and has more capabilities
    • Technically ESUs can have access to the dashboards, NDE still has to work out other issues
    • Toby Boss Question: Can ESUs have access to the dashboard technology for our own data?
      • Matt B. response- We have been working closely with NDE on the project but haven't talked about the dashboard in this fashion.
    • Lenny said that the DRS has more features and would be a good place for schools to look at data right now
      • 2012-2013 data will be in DRS after the release of the State of the Schools Report
    • Freida stated that there will be an opportunity to learn about the DRS at the NDE School Improvement workshops this fall.

    • ESUs have to get access from school districts to get into ASSIST
    • Would be very helpful to get together to put together a tool to help schools know what should be done in Year 1, Year 2 etc.

      • Still working on getting Safari up and working
      • It will be a cool tool once it is all up and running

How to create curricular units of study that align standards, instruction, and assessment organized into three parts: Seeing the "Big Picture" connections first, Laying the foundation for designing curricular units in five steps, and Designing the curricular unit of study.

    • LB 438 - Proposed legislation for state accountability system
      • Added components: Subgroup inclusion, minimum group size for accountability, consequences, and number of classifications
      • If LB 438 passes this year, the first data to be used would be 2014-2015 data
      • Identify the 3 lowest performing schools in NE
        • Have 1 year to put an action plan into place
      • Discussion for getting a federal waiver
    • Will be seeking input from schools and ESUs
    • NeSA Reading scores increasing all quartiles in a parallel pattern
    • NeSA Math gap is increasing between low and high quartilies
